Maestro Stefano Montanari is back in Toronto as guest conductor for Opera Atelier's latest production of Mozart’s sensuous, sexual rom-com Don Giovanni, and you are invited to meet him. He will be giving a talk about his career and his interpretation of the extraordinary music composed by W. A. Mozart on Monday, October 3, 2011 - 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm Istituto Italiano di Cultura – 496, Huron St., Toronto. Admission is free.

Did I mention he's a fantastic whistler? Watch this video, someone should give him a Grammy for this.

Opera Atelier reinvents Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito

This thrilling story of desperate intrigues, unrequited love and heart stopping reversals of fortune is taken directly from Roman history. Roman aristocrat Vitellia plots the assassination of Tito, Emperor of Rome. When the plot ultimately fails, Tito’s forgiveness of his enemies catches all off guard, turning the opera’s theme into one of clemency and redemption.

For this production Opera Atelier reunites the stars of its production of Idomeneo - Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman, American male soprano Michael Maniaci and Croatian tenor Krešimir Špicer – in North America’s first period production of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito. The production also features Canadian soprano Mireille Asselin, mezzo-soprano Mireille Lebel. bass-baritone Curtis Sullivan, who celebrates 25 years performing with Opera Atelier, Maestro David Fallis with Tafelmusik Orchestra, and the company’s full corps of Artists of Atelier Ballet. This new production runs for six performances only April 22 to May 1, 2011 at Toronto’s Elgin Theatre (189 Yonge Street).
